COLUMBUS, Ohio—Growing fast-casual barbeque brand City Barbeque has been named to QSR’s 2018 40 Under 40 list and honored as a TDn2K 2018 Global Best Practices Award nominee. City Barbeque continues to gain recognition as it grows; the brand currently operates 35 units but will end 2018 with 43 joints across six states.
City Barbeque was one only barbeque concept named to QSR’s annual 40 Under 40, a list dominated by salads, burgers, and international cuisine. QSR assessed the winning fast-casual 2.0 brands on a number of criteria: “chef-driven menus, premium hospitality, a focus on experience rather than value, enhanced beverage programs, high-quality ingredients, ambitions other than growth and profit, a collaborative spirit, and commitment to long-term relationships with stakeholders.” City Barbeque made the cut for its “legit barbecue credentials,” including its “house-smoked meats, scratch-made ingredients, and ‘backyard hospitality.’”
TDn2K, a benchmarking partner for the restaurant industry, nominated City Barbeque for a Best Practice Award alongside such distinguished peers as Olive Garden, Panera Bread, and The Wendy’s Company. Nominees were honored for excellence in their segment of the industry, and evaluated on criteria including community involvement, retention, sustainability, and year-over-year improvement.
